300 Entertainment is thrilled to release the soundtrack for the feature film “The Unicorn.” The music curation was a joint effort between Rooney
frontman/director Robert Schwartzman and rising industry star A&R
Allyson Coff of 300 Entertainment. “The Unicorn,” is a quirky and charming tale about
love and pushing boundaries starring Lauren Lapkus, Nick Rutherford,
Lucy Hale, Beck Bennett, Dree Hemingway, Darrell Britt-Gibson, Maya
Kazan, John Kapelos, Beverly D’Angelo and Kyle Mooney, and more. The
soundtrack features two previously released songs recorded exclusively
for the movie; “Time and Time Again” by Rooney and a special
collaboration between Rooney and Phony Ppl for a feel-good cover of Len
Barry’s 1965 hit “1-2-3”.
The movie follows engaged couple Malory (Lauren Lapkus) and Caleb (Nick Rutherford) discovering Malory’s parent’s secret to a happy marriage - threesomes. Determined to properly celebrate their own engagement, they set out on a wild ride in search of a threesome of their own. However, this fun and innocent new experience takes an intense turn, exposing deeper relationship problems and threatening their future together.
“The Unicorn” soundtrack is colored by a delightful blend of playful indie rock, classic tracks reimagined, and emerging 300 Entertainment talent. It marries up and comers including Irish rapper Rejjie Snow, Atlanta indie R&B artist Demo Taped, and cult favorite Phony Ppl with nostalgia track “So It Goes” by Nick Lowe and tops it off with indie pop favorites Kim Petras, Phoenix, and Rooney.
Speaking about the ideas behind the soundtrack, Schwartzman says “some of my favorite albums are soundtracks; it’s how I discovered certain songs and musical artists growing up. Like a playlist, or mixtape, this is collection of different artists and songs, genres and styles, chosen to highlight and help support the film’s story. Sometimes the soundtrack takes on a life of its own and we remember the music just as clearly as we remember the film. I went into making “The Unicorn” with a specific musical identity in mind and it’s exciting to be able to share this diverse collection of songs on one album.”
Allyson Coff, of 300 Entertainment, adds “as 300 Entertainment's first foray into the Soundtrack space “The Unicorn” is the perfect movie as it has so many amazing musical moments. It’s very exciting to hear 300 Entertainment’s artists throughout the film and to expose the tracks to a new audience. Robert puts a high value on music, so collaborating on this soundtrack was an extremely fun and creative experience.”
“The Unicorn” opened in February in select theaters and is out now on all streaming services including iTunes and Amazon. The soundtrack is out now.
